Alex Ferguson would surely have loved Michael Owen at 19 years of age. What an explosive striker, scarey pace and deadly in front of goal. This goal in the 1998 World Cup shows Owen off at his peak, dribbling at players with no fear and knowledge that he could beat any defender or goalkeeper. Breath taking.

However, Owen started brightly in his pre-season 2009 for Manchester United with a debut goal. In this goal he links up with Carrick initially showing that in recent years he has been looking to play deeper….but Fergie surely will be looking for him to concentrate on his play in the 18 yard box. With this goal he highlights that he still has this talent.

This goal is great – Stoke City are not just a one trick pony! Delap cuts out a bad pass from Gareth Barry, who passes it to Liam Lawrence. Lawrence then threads through a good pass to Fuller and his first touch is my favourite bit of this goal – it effectively cuts the Aston Villa defence out of the play. Fuller then goes on to drill a well aimed shot past Brad Friedel. A beauty.

As a football fan constantly following Premier League football, I hate this time of the season…the end of it! The 2008/2009 Barclays Premier League season has been really great and in my opinion the BBC boys have really shown in pundit world that they still have lots to offer. With Alan Hansen and Lee Dixon, MOTD and MOTD2 give great technical insight into the modern professional game and show you the subtle differences between the top 4 teams, the ‘middle segment’ division within the Prem and the relegation battle group of teams. In this season, it was the bottom bit that seemed to be so tight for so long.

However this site is all about the best goals – so here is the top 10 (courtesy of the wonderful Match of the Day) that you can vote for:

Goal 1: Ricardo Fuller Stoke City (v Aston Villa) 23/8/08 Great turn and sublime finish from a tight angle

Goal 2: Geovanni (Arsenal v) Hull City 27/9/08 comes inside on the left and then the number 10 cracks a 20 yard screamer

Goal 3 David Bentley (Arsenal v) Tottenham Hotspur 29/10/08 crazy volley from just outside the centre circle

Goal 4 Glen Johnson Portsmouth (v Hull City) 22/11/08 chest trap and then hits a strong left footed volley

Goal 5 Robin Van Persie Arsenal (v Liverpool) 21/12/08 Great ball from Fabregas controlled fantastically by Van Persie on his chest and then hits it on his less favoured right foot

Goal 6 Paul Konchesky West Ham Utd (v Fulham) 18/1/09 Blockbuster hit from about 30 yards, superb moment for the Fulham left back

Goal 7 Ryan Giggs (West Ham Utd v) Manchester United 8/2/09 Giggs cuts inside twice with two dummies and then scores a rare right footer

Goal 8 Carlton Cole (Wigan Atheletic v) West Ham Utd 4/3/09 Carlton Cole finishes a great team goal with a great 1 touch passing build up from Zola’s happy hammers

Goal 9 Fernando Torres Liverpool (v Blackburn Rovers) 11/4/09 Wonder goal from the Spanish striker. Great volley from a tight angle, Torres uses his strength and balance to hit the top far corner. My personal favourite.

Goal 10 Tuncay Middlesbrough v Aston Villa 16/5/09 As featured on best goals last week. Fantastically well executed bicycle kick.

Goal of the week was easy, shame for the Boro fans that this quality bicycle kick wasn’t the one that gave them the 3 points that they really had to get. Not mathematically down after this draw with Aston Villa, Boro really knew that winning by 5 goals and relying on Hull to lose on the last day of the season was virtually impossible. When Stuart Downing cuts inside to deliver a cross/shot, it balloons off of one of the Aston Villa players to give Tuncay the opportunity to perform an overhead kick. The execution and improvisation on this one is fantastic. I wonder if any of the big Prem teams will snap this lad up.

Goal of the week for last weekend goes to Carlos Tevez, a great ball out of defence from Vidic goes to Berbatov whose sublime control brings the ball on to the deck. Berbatov then sets up Tevez who pings it straight away just inside the ‘D’ to hit the right post send the ball into the back of the net. Very good.
